Overview
The Grit Scale measures your tendency to sustain interest and effort toward long-term goals. Developed by Angela Duckworth, grit has been shown to predict achievement in domains from spelling bees to military training.
What It Measures
Two components of grit: consistency of interests (passion) and perseverance of effort (tenacity). Your overall grit score combines both.
What It Does Not Measure By Itself
It does not show how you behave under immediate pressure or whether others experience you as reliable.
How It Fits Into Pattern
Pattern uses grit as a depth layer that complements slower evidence from repeat play and sustained assessment behavior.
The Science Behind It
Duckworth's research connected grit with persistence in challenging environments. Gritty individuals maintain commitment to their goals even when progress is slow or obstacles arise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can grit be developed?
Yes — grit is not fixed. Deliberate practice, finding purpose in your work, and cultivating a growth mindset all contribute to increasing grit over time.
